TRANSGENICS IN BIOCONTROL

To examine biocontrol issues in detail and compare the reaults against our larger study; to determine if different subsets if issues emerge from public and scientific sources; and to evaluate how biocontrol issues are representerd to the general public.

1. Identify and analyze issues from public and scientific perspectives that relate to development of genetically engineered products for purposes of biological disease control (biocontrol).

2. Develop a frequency index to rank issues and to form a basis for comparison between public (newspapers and popular press) and scientific (technical/regulatory) sources.

3. Provide information, in terms understandable by the general public, on those issues that contain controversial positions and/or substantial representation of risk.
